The convergence of agendas in Africa: aligning food, climate, biodiversity, and nutrition priorities for resilient agri-food systems
The Zero Hunger Coalition is organising a side event on Thursday, 9 January, from 5 to 6:30 pm EAT (3 pm CET) in the Meera Hall, Speke Resort, Kampala, Uganda, as part of the Extraordinary African Union Summit on the Post-Malabo Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP).
The event is organised in partnership with the Parliamentary Alliances for Food Security and Nutrition, Benin, Cameroon, CGIAR, Democratic Republic of Congo, GIZ-BMZ, Germany, Madagascar, Shamba Centre for Food & Climate (as the secretariat of the Zero Hunger Coalition), Somalia, the UN Food Systems Coordination Hub, the World Food Programme, Zambia and Sierra Leone.
The event will address critical themes at the intersection of food, climate, biodiversity, and nutrition. It will explore how evidence-based interventions can reshape national strategies to more closely align with the CAADP’s 10-Year Strategy and Action Plan (2026–2035). Discussions will focus on transformative approaches to enhance the sustainability and effectiveness of agri-food systems. The dialogue will also explore how to close the financing gaps critical to transforming Africa's agri-food systems, while championing innovative financial instruments. It will highlight diverse models, such as public-private partnerships and blended finance, and emphasise the role of climate finance, along with initiatives like the Dubai Initiative on Convergence and the Azerbaijan Harmoniya Initiative, in supporting smallholder farmers to adapt to climate extremes. Finally, the discussion will focus on strengthening collaborative governance frameworks to integrate food, climate, biodiversity, and nutrition agendas. Case studies will illustrate how multi-stakeholder engagement can lead to impactful systemic changes, enhancing policy coherence and operational efficiency.
This side event offers a unique platform to discuss innovative strategies, share insights, and foster collaborations that drive transformative change in Africa’s agri-food systems.
