Road to Kampala – Global alliances & coalitions to support the Post Malabo Agenda

7 November 2024online

Africa is advancing the third phase of the Comprehensive African Agricultural Development Programme (CAADP3), a transformative framework designed to shape the continent’s agrifood systems over the coming decade. Building on past iterations, CAADP3 aims to boost agricultural productivity, promote multi-sectoral collaboration, and address persistent issues of food insecurity and malnutrition. With a strong focus on regional collaboration and sustainable growth, CAADP3 represents Africa’s commitment to self-sufficiency, climate resilience, and sustainable economic development.

On the global stage, the ambition to end hunger and poverty has gained new momentum with the launch of the G20 Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty (GAAHP) under Brazil’s 2024 G20 Presidency. It joins a number of existing initiatives, such as the Zero Hunger Coalition (ZHC) and the Alliance of Champions for Food Systems Transformation (ACF), that are currently supporting agrifood system transformation in Africa.

How can these initiatives best support the CAADP3 framework? What are the expectations of African countries joining these global efforts, and how can stakeholders avoid duplicating efforts and ensure coordinated, impactful interventions?

This second webinar, which took place online on Thursday, 7 November, addressed the crucial issue of coordination among these coalitions and alliances, as well as other key stakeholders, to understand how their efforts can complement the CAADP3 framework. The objectives was to identify actionable solutions for enhancing collaboration between the three entities with the aim of strengthening and supporting the post-Malabo Agenda.

The webinar offered a conversation between leaders involved in the development of the CAADP3 framework at the continental and national levels as well as representatives from the G20 Global Alliance, the Zero Hunger Coalition, and the Alliance of Champions.

The partners supporting the organisation of this webinar were the African Food Systems Parliamentary Network (AFSPaN), GAIN, SDG2 Advocacy Hub, the Shamba Centre for Food & Climate and the Consortium of African Youth in Agriculture and Climate Change (CAYACC).
